WELCOME to 5th GRADE!!!

8/18/18

I am so looking forward to an exciting year with each of you!  We are going to have a blast learning Math, Science, American History, Geography, Reading, and Writing.  Each subject offers many different opportunities to have fun while we learn.

Since we are going to hit the ground running on September 4th, there are a few items you should have when you come back to school.  If there is anything you can’t find, we will work something out so you are prepared for a successful fifth grade year.

I can’t wait to meet each of you!

Notes

8/18/18

There are many things you can do to help your child succeed in school.  We know that we should make sure our children have plenty of sleep and to eat a healthy breakfast to help them do their best.  But did you know there are many other things you can do to aid in the success of your student?  Here are just a few:

  • Allow your child to complete homework and studies in different areas like at their desk, the kitchen table, on the patio, etc.  Studies show that with a variety of work spaces, students more easily retrieve information.
  • Give your child brain breaks.  Giving the brain a break from drills can actually help with remembering information.
  • Review assessments with your children.  This reinforces the learning and opens the floor for a conversation about the learning.
  • Talk to your student about their day.  Ask specific questions using the Friday Progress sheet as a guide for discussion.  Check out the link for ideas on how to get the conversation started. http://www.teachthought.com/pedagogy/25-alternatives-whatd-learn-school-today/
